This week we approved House Bill 1 to correct an $18.4 million shortfall in the teacher pay bill of 2019 so Mississippi educators will continue to receive the $1,500 annual boost.
A clerical error by the Department of Education caused an undercount of personnel. However, officials said pay increases have gone to 40,991 education professionals since last year.
We expect the governor will now sign the bill. The House approved it earlier.
Organizational committee meetings are being held and bills are being filed.
